Protecting Ecosystems

Nature works when it’s given the space, structure, and support to recover

Restoring the Aravali Creek with IAMGURGAON

In partnership with IAMGURGAON, Aramco supported the ecological restoration of a degraded stretch of the Aravali Biodiversity Park in Gurugram, India. This area, once a dry and heavily encroached waterway, is part of the critical Aravali ridge system — one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world and an important ecological corridor for North India.

The initiative focused on reviving the natural creek bed, improving rainwater percolation, and reintroducing native plant species. Over 21,000 indigenous saplings were planted to stabilize the soil and support biodiversity recovery. The project also included the creation of a water retention system that helps recharge groundwater levels.

Aramco’s role centered on enabling long-term ecosystem functionality, not through isolated intervention, but by supporting proven ecological frameworks. This project contributes to restoring the integrity of a fragile landscape while strengthening climate resilience in a densely urbanized region.

Afforestation in Rural Maharashtra with SayTrees

As part of its commitment to land restoration, Aramco collaborated with SayTrees to plant 24,000 native saplings across three rural sites in Maharashtra. The initiative was rooted in the “One Village, One Forest” approach — a model that prioritizes local stewardship and ecological self-sufficiency.

Sites were identified in consultation with village authorities and prepared through soil rejuvenation techniques using natural inputs. Over 50 species of native trees were planted to restore biodiversity, stabilize soil, and improve moisture retention. The program also created green zones that support pollinators, bird populations, and other micro-fauna critical to local agriculture.

This was a community-driven effort from the start, with over 1,500 residents and students participating in planting and upkeep. The project was structured for continuity, with Aramco backing long-term restoration through active field support and regular assessment.

These efforts reflect Aramco’s broader environmental strategy: enabling scalable, locally relevant solutions that strengthen ecosystems while supporting long-term community resilience.
