On 4 March, Aramco Asia India (AAI) Managing Director, Mr. Mohammed Al-Herbish inaugurated the ‘Aravali Creek Rejuvenation’ project in Gurugram. The revived Aravali Creek will not only help control flooding in the city but also create a scenic, safe, and shaded path for pedestrians. AAI MD along with Ms. Latika Thukral, Co-founder, IAMGURGAON planted a sapling to mark the occasion.
Lying at the heart of Gurugram, the creek (water body) was initially intended to serve as vital flood mitigation channels and reservoirs for rainwater collection within the city. This project will enhance the potential of the existing creek and provide a public space for the local community. The rejuvenation efforts have led to increase in vegetation cover through ‘rewilding’, an approach that allows nature to restore itself by introduction of native species and gradually withdrawal of human intervention. This way of letting nature revive and care for itself ensures sustainable growth of forest cover. The project will support local communities as well as improve global environmental substantiality.
