Aramco Asia India’s (AAI) citizenship project ‘Born Learning Campaign: Refurbishing Aanganwadi Centres’ in collaboration with NGO – United Way Bengaluru (UWBe) was formally inaugurated on 15 July in Dhanwas, rural Gurugram.

This project marked a significant step towards strengthening early childhood care and education. As part of this initiative, five Aanganwadi centers (AWCs) were upgraded to create safe, child–friendly, and conducive learning environment in line with Government of India’s Saksham Aanganwadi vision. It is worth noting that this initiative will benefit around 357 pre–school children, 49 pregnant mothers, 28 lactating mothers and 261 adolescents.

Aanganwadi is a childcare and mother–care center set up under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme of the Government of India. It plays a critical role in supporting the health and development of pre–school children, pregnant and lactating mothers, especially in underserved or rural areas.

By engaging in a wide range of citizenship initiatives, Aramco demonstrates its continued commitment to our core principles. We strive to support the communities and environment in which we operate by actively participating in community outreach and development efforts. This reinforces our long-standing dedication to making a meaningful and sustainable impact. Through this project, Aramco recognizes that Aanganwadi Centers play a vital role in shaping the future of children and aims to enhance the quality of early learning, promote the wellbeing of pregnant & lactating mothers as well as empower the Aanganwadi workers with digital tools.

CEO of UWBe Rajesh Krishnan noted, “United Way Bengaluru believes that helping children is the best way to invest in the future. Through our Born Learning Campaign, we are transforming Anganwadis in rural Gurugram into vibrant, caring spaces that help children from 0 to age 6 get ready for school. We also support pregnant women, new mothers, and adolescent girls by providing awareness sessions on Anemia, breastfeeding and nutrition, positively impacting their health. In partnership with Aramco Asia India, the refurbishment of Aangawadis is just the beginning. We are building a model of care and early education that gives every child an empowering start in their life."

The project involved comprehensive refurbishment of the 5 AWCs, training programs to build the capacity of AWC workers, and organizing 10 community engagement initiatives aimed at enhancing health & nutrition – including the establishment of 3 kitchen gardens and awareness campaigns addressing key health issues. The workers have been trained in innovative, next generation teaching methods and equipped with 5 sets of customized Teaching & Learning Materials (TLMs). Additionally, the project also introduced digitized, interactive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate education for pre-school children by way of providing 5 digital screens with pre–loaded educational content.
